Universal Programmer

Data I/O Corporation, USA, has upgraded its line of universal programmers with a new engineering programming product that offers faster boot-up time, faster programming times, and internal file storage. Called the 3980 Programming System, it contains all the features of the Data I/O 3900 Programming System. In addition, the 3980 includes an 80 MB mass storage module (MSM), and improved system software that has resulted in faster programming times on serial EPROMS. The Data I/O 3980 Programming System represents an important improvement in universal programming. With the 3980, Data I/O is continuing its tradition of quality universal programming products to meet the varied needs of its customers. The new features of the 3980 are in direct response to requests by 3900 customers, and upgrades will be made available to thousands of 3900 customers, helping them improve performance and obtain more value from their programming system. The 3980 Programming System features advanced universal programming support for most FPGA, PLD, CPLD, FLASH, memory devices and microcontrollers on the market in DIP, LCC, PLCC, SOIC and many fine pitch packages, including TSOP, QFP, and Intel's new mBGA package. Devices now supported by the 3980 include Intel Strata-Flash, AMD 29Vxx series Flash, CLPDs , from Altera, Xilinx, and Vantis, and new microcontrollers from Hitachi and Microchip Technology. Like the entire 3900 system, the new 3980 uses Data I/O's MatchBook device carriers, which align and hold the surface mount device (SMD) over the programming site for safer handling. Data I/O has included new optimised system software in the 3980, reducing the programming time required for most devices. Improvements of up to 75% have been realised in Version 5.7, and hundreds more devices will have improved programming times in the v5.8 and 5.9. Also included in the 3980 is a new storage module that decreases file transfer time by up to 63 per cent as well as minimises the need to load system software for updates. Like the 3900, the 3980 features 88 universal pin drivers, which can program devices with 300 pins or more. Data I/O includes its TaskLink software as a standard feature in the 3980. TaskLink is an advanced device programming software interface that speeds and simplifies the operation of the 3980 and other Data I/O programmers and handlers with a menudriven interface and online help.
