Pentium PC With Multi-Chip-Module Technology

Digital-Logic AC has developed a Pentium PC through use of the Multi-Chip-Module (MCM) technology, in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. This Smart-P5-Core uses the Pentium processor and the Intel chipset as an unpacked die. The dies are bonded directly onto the substation on which the power supply, a part of the memory and other auxiliary circuits are placed. Thanks to the novel 1.8 V technology, the 166 MHz/233 MHz MMX module operates with 4 W, therefore no active cooling is needed. The PCI Bus and DRAM-Bus serve as interfaces to the expansion; For use, the computer module is stacked onto a carrier board which contains the memory expansion as well as possible peripheral functions.
