Picture Tel Corporation, USA, offers SwiftSite compact videoconferencing system. It allows an ordinary TV to be used for videoconferencing, allowing high quality video meetings to take place using the digital telephone network (ISDN). SwiftSite delivers standards-based video and audio performance in a small, self-contained unit, 20 inches long, five inches high and less than 10 lbs in weight. It is easier to set up and use than a VCR, and is less expensive than many office photocopiers. Making a video call is just like dialling a telephone number, using the infrared remote control keypad which looks like a TV remote control. It is a novel communication method that enables people in different parts of the world to meet and talk via a live video connection, without ever leaving their offices.
