Technology Transfer & Industry Co-Ordination Division offers Fire Extinguishing Powder, OLFEX. The powder is a reaction product based principally on urea and potassium bi carbonate. The powder has excellent free flowing and anticaking characteristics and possesses efficient fire extinguishing capacity. The product is patented (Patent No.172692) and registered as OLFEX under the patent and Trademark Act. The technology was proven very successful in the fire fighting industry. It has a very good potential market because of the rapid growth of petroleum and petrochemical industries and civil aviation. India"s requirement of dry chemical powder (DCP) is estimated to be around 400 tons per year. All these raw materials are available indigenously and the process requires simple processes like grinding, blending, sieving and drying. Typical properties/characteristics: volatile matter (%): 0.50 (maximum) (105°C, 2 hrs); bulk density (g/ml); 0.50-0.70; 3. average particle size (50% passing): 40-50 (in microns); and hygroscopicity, % (w/w): 2 (maximum) (48 hrs 80% RH).
