Safety Mats

Tactile safety monitoring devices guard personnel around hazardous machines in a simple way – actuation by physical contact only. Compared with traditional guarding methods such as (solenoid) door interlocks in combination with fences or similar barriers, tactile devices offer full flexibility, an unhampered overview about and access to the process. Especially safety mats can simplify routine tasks such as machine set-up, maintenance and repair. Due to its modular design even highest claims in terms of flexibility, an entire coverage of difficult geometrical areas can be fulfilled. The working principle is comparable with a normally open switch. When properly installed with the active edge profiles (accessory), a 100% mat actuation area is achieved…thus complying with the stringent requirements of EN 954-1 Safety Category 3, which makes them suitable for most industrial applications. Both the surfaces of the Schmersal SMS 3-series made of a non-slippery and high chemical resistant material (IP 67) and the robust and stable inner construction (24-gauge hardened steel plates) reduce traction and slippage to minimum. Typical applications for safety mats are: robotic work cells; laser welding/cutting equipment; packaging machinery; textile machinery; palletising/stacking/shrink wrapping systems; paper converting machinery; material handling equipment; tube-bending equipment; assembly machinery; stamping/punching/pressing equipment; and printing machinery.
