Shyam International & Bharadwaj e-Technologies has introduced a unique device – Electro Spark Coating unit manufactured with the technology transferred from the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad, an autonomous R&D body of Dept of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi. Model ARC-I-6M is a Electro Spark Coating (ESC) unit that provides a convenient means of enhancing surface properties of varied engineering components like cutting tools, machine parts, dies, etc., as well as for refurbishment of worn out parts such as shafts and structural elements. Applications: cutting tools, shearing and extrusion dies, die casting moulds, valves and valve stems, wear parts, shafts with bearing seating, hot gas corrosion resistance applications, refurbishment of turbine blades, selective area rebuilding, etc. The ESC is a process, which permits application of metallurgically bonded coatings, with a low heat input to the substrate, at ambient temperature. The ESC technique essentially utilises short-duration, high-current electrical pulses to melt material from a consumable electrode and deposit it on the substrate. In principle, any electrically conductive material available in electrode form can be coated on any conducting substrate by the ESC process and this makes the ESC technology extremely versatile. The metallurgically bonded coatings have excellent adhesion properties while the low total heat input required for the process ensures that the heat affected zone is not significant and that thermal stress effects or changes in substrate properties are minimal. ESC process is a method to enhance the life of engineering components routinely subjected to wear. It is a pulsed-micro welding process for depositing a hard wear resistant electrode material on a wide range of metallic substrates. The material to be coated serves as the anode while the cathode is the work piece itself. Striking an arc between the consumable anode and the job causes some of the electrode material to melt instantaneously at the point of contact and deposits on the surface of the work piece.
