Diamond-like coatings

Precision Surface Technology Pte Ltd offers diamond-like coatings. These are thin carbon based amorphous coatings with a high hardness and a low coefficient of friction, which results in an excellent wear resistance. In addition, these layers have a low surface roughness, are chemically inert and because of their low surface energy they have a significant anti-stick behaviour. The standard thickness of these layers is situated between 0.002 and 0.004 mm. Surface roughness of the coating is below 0.02mm Ra. Types: in addition to diamond-like carbon coatings (a-C:H, DLC) Bekaert Dymonics also produces diamond-like nanocomposite coatings (a-C: H/a-Si:O, Dylyn(r)). By introducing other elements in the DLC basic structure, additional coating types with specific properties can be obtained. While DLC coatings offer the best wear resistance due to the extremely high hardness, Dylyn(r) coatings show a lower residual stress, an even lower friction, a better anti-stick behaviour and a higher temperature resistance. There are various types suitable for tribological applications such as self-lubricating bearings and metal forming tool: stamps, drawing dies, mandrels, curling dies; moving parts in injection moulds, SiC bearings, seals, plungers for pumps, needles for hotrunner systems; mould surfaces and insert cores in order to obtain an appropriate release of the plastic or rubber end product; and welding elements for plastic welding, mould surfaces and rotating valves.
