D-Gun (Detonation Gun) coating is the most advanced thermal spray coating technique in the world, which proves as a versatile and effective weapon in combating hazards like corrosion at high temperature, wear, erosion, heat, impact, radiation, etc. Advantages of the process: D-Gun coating is a highly cost effective way to add superior performance qualities to a given substrate and extend product life and increase performance; a wide variety of materials can be sprayed on all suitable base materials; dense microstructures with smooth surface finish; much smoother finish could be obtained after grinding; coatings feature high dimensional accuracy; high bond strength coatings (>10,000 psi); low substrate temperature (<150ºC); controlled residual compressive stresses resulting in enhanced fracture toughness; and better impact wear, fretting wear and erosion resistance than any other thermal spray coatings. The potential of D-Gun coating in surface engineering: substantial improvement of surface performance characteristics, thus extracting more potential from the component. Innovation of new products by combination of base material having a specific functionality with superior surface coating properties, so as to obtain a combination of characteristics, which would not be possible with homogenous materials; high cost savings, by use of inexpensive base materials coated with high-grade surface coating; increasing life of components by several times. Coating process: D-Gun uses measured amount of gases and coating powder, detonated in the combustion chamber. The resultant high-speed gas stream melts the skin surface of coating powder and propelled to high velocities (up to 1200 m/s), leading to enormously dense spray coatings with outstanding adhesion (bond strength in excess 10,000 psi can be obtained). Application areas: wear protection against part – granular abrasion, fretting, scuffing, sliding friction; surfaces with special properties – electrically conducting or insulating coatings; self-lubricating coatings; production of sensors and thermocouples; corrosion protection against – atmospheric corrosion. Fields of application: aircraft industries, chemical plant, paper industries, power plant, automobile, cable industries, textile industries, etc.
