Structural Adhesives Ltd offers reactive acrylic adhesives for a strong bond on metal-to-metal, metal-to-hard plastics or metal-to-timber applications in a wide range of industries from automotive and electronics to aerospace and construction. Developed by a specialist British company, Bushby Brook Works, UK, the reactive acrylics, based on methacrylate monomers and cured by peroxides and amines to produce a rubbery, crosslinked Perspex, provide high levels of impact and heat resistance. These reactive acrylics offer rapid cure and a strong bond, typically 25 MPa shear strength on steel, on a wide variety of surfaces. They are also said to withstand extremes of temperature and vibration such as those found in fighter aircraft and naval vessels where this type of adhesive is being used. The company offers the adhesive in several forms. The adhesive can either be used as a premix in which the two components emerge from a static mixer, so that the adhesive is put onto one surface only, or two-way in which one adhesive component is put onto one surface and the other component onto the second surface to be bonded. The latter method does not require application equipment. Cure speed and rheology variants are offered within the product range. These cope with many practical situations.
