Miniature Industrial LVDTS

Penny & Giles Position Sensors Ltd, UK, has recently introduced a range of industrial series LVDTS. They have a wide range of applications in CNC machines, earth-moving and heavy lifting vehicles, high performance automobiles, entertainment park equipment, and just about any application which calls for accurate and reliable sensing of linear displacement. The LVDT works on the principle of transformer having one primary and two secondary windings. These windings are coupled by means of a ferro-magnetic core. Movement of the core preferentially couples one or the other secondaries, thus generating a voltage difference between the secondary windings which are arranged to provide a linear voltage relationship with the displacement of the core over a specified range. Since no direct contact is required between the sensing elements, these transducers have a very long life and high reliability and accuracy.
