Wind Farm Automation Solution

WIND (Wireless Interface & Networking for Data transfer) offers the latest technology solution that integrates seamlessly with the existing Data logger (hardware) and software available in the wind farm. It is independent of both operating system and hardware. Further, any number of wind turbines in a wind farm can easily be wirelessly interfaced and networked to the central site office. WIND solution provides each wind turbine in that wind farm with a wireless interface device along with an antenna. This wireless device will convert the serial data (RS232) acquired from the data logger or various sensors to WiFi (802.11b) protocol and transmitted. The device can be easily configured to accept serial data transfer from 1200bps to 115Kbps. At the central site office, the wireless data transmitted will be acquired using a radio modem along with suitable antenna. The distance between the wind turbines and the central office can be anywhere from a few hundred metres to even 25 KM. Line of sight is main criteria for wireless networking and the height of the antenna masts at the central site office and wind turbine will hence depend on the geography of the surroundings.

There is no recurring cost involved towards wireless data transfer from the turbines to the central office, since WIND operates on licence-free frequency of 2.4GHz. If required, data collected/reports at the central office can be transferred to any desired location by GPRS modems. There is a recurring expenditure involved when data transfer takes place using the GSM/GPRS network.
