In any combustion system (oil/gas burner) the air to fuel ratio plays a vital role in its efficiency, quality and the life of the system. Less air leads to black smoke – carbon deposits – reducing heat transfer and thus deteriorating the efficiency. Excess air leads to unwanted heating of surplus air increasing the chimney temperature wasting the heat energy. Most of us are either ignorant or usually depend on our operators. Hi-Therm Boiler Engineers has developed an automatic flame controller (high/low), which comprises of a fuel control valve and an air butterfly valve formed as a combination system operating through linkages driven by a servo motor under the command of a temperature controller to inch up/down the flame. Thus the air and fuel ratio remains constant throughout the firing capacity, thereby smokeless, optimum combustion with minimum excess air and less heat loss – increases the efficiency of the system. That apart, it continuously monitors and controls the preset temperature automatically [the key factor of any heating system] and works in the set range, thereby quality product and safe operation in the temperature limits overcomes the chances of over/under heating of system. It also avoids manual controlling/settings of fuel/air whenever required during operation that too in a hot zone, e.g., a furnace – a possible place of accident. The heat supply increases/decreases depending on the demand of system that too gradually without damaging the system. The AFC comes along with a control panel duly housed with a temperature controller, relays lamps, switches, etc. It can also be supplied along with a PID controller to have a step less modulation. It finds wide application in oil/gas fired furnaces, and similar heating units.
