Positioning Actuators

Mazda Limited manufactures spring cylinder actuator, a powerful high performance pneumatic unit that provides positive throttling or on-off operation for automatic control valves. Both the cylinder and the positioner are designed for supply pressure up to 150 psi, making very high thrusts attainable in a small compact unit. This actuator is fully field reversible for air-to-open or air-to-close action without additional parts; a spring provides fail-safe operation. The positioner supplies air to both sides of the piston, providing exceptionally stiff, precise movement together with high frequency response. This actuator has ability to respond linearly to single changes from the controller and give uniform response unaffected by decreasing or increasing pressures. The linearity of this cylinder is within +/- 1.5 per cent. High operating speed is achieved with virtually no overshoot when approaching the final plug position. Mazda spring cylinder actuators produce substantially higher thrust than comparable to diaphragm actuators. Mazda cylinder actuators do not require springs for positioning. The spring serves only as failsafe device.
