Rotating Double Acting Pneumatic Cylinders

The Jaws Mfg Co offers Rotating Double Acting Pneumatic Cylinders. These cylinders are a common means of actuating power chucks on turning machines for to and fro movement mechanism. The chuck is mounted on the spindle nose of turning centre/ lathe. The cylinder is mounted on the rear side of the spindle. The longitudinal movement and force of the piston is transferred into a radial jaw movement and force in the chuck by the action of a diagonal wedge hook or lever. To clamp a component on outer diameter the jaw moves towards centre. The piston performs a stroke until jaws rest on work piece and full clamping pressure is built up. Clamping pressure must be upheld in the cylinder during the whole clamping cycle. To unclamp pressure is diverted to the rear of the piston to move the draw bar between the chuck and piston in the opposite direction and so open the jaws. When clamping from the inside in an outward direction, such as when clamping rings the sequence of operations is reversed.
