Cable, Segmental Conductor Type

Cable Corporation of India introduces, for the first time in the country, a segmented conductor cable, Type A2XWaY 1 X 1200 rm/s 19133 KV(E). It is constructed of compacted circular segmental aluminium conductor lapped with semiconducting tape/s, conductor screening of extruded semi-conducting compound followed by XLPE insulation with semi-conducting screen. Semi-conducting crepe paper is provided on this for the purpose of cushioning. Round wire aluminium is used for armouring since non-magnetic material is required for single core cable. RCC tape ia provided for holding, over which a PVC outer sheath is extruded. This cable has been designed and developed for Indian Metal And Ferro Alloys Ltd. The speciality of this cable is a cross section of 1200 mm2 for conductor achieved by using sector shaped segmental conductor design, and five stranded sector shaped conductor segments with one central circular conductor separated by semi-conducting tape used to avoid "Skin Effect". This type is also known as `Milliken conductor'.
