Aerial Bunched Cable

Cable Corporation of India has developed a 33 kV aerial bunched cable (ABC). This cable is used in place of over-head conductor lines in cyclone prone areas. Here individual conductors are insulated from each other by XLPE insulation whereas in overhead lines air acts as insulation. It uses aluminium alloy or steel wires for tensile strength. Regions with too many trees cannot afford to have overhead lines since tree cutting for erecting towers always creates controversies. ABC offers following advantages: prevents theft of power by illegal means; is compact and uses less space as compared to overhead lines; and, can be used where underground cable laying is not possible.
