Southern Power Equipment Company (SPEC), an ISO 9001: 2000 company certified by BVQI, caters to the power and distribution sector of the electrical industry. Over 30,000 SPEC transformers are in use since two decades at various industries and utilities. The company has good production facilities and infrastructure for manufacture and testing of transformers up to 132 kV/50 MVA. It has been able to cater to the exacting demands of industries on a continuous basis meeting the customers’ expectations. All design are carried out by CAD software like SolidWorks for mechanical and electrical design using 3D versions, solid modelling and finite element analysis. All electrical/mechanical calculations are done by customised software. The designs are subjected to simulated tests to verify the production worthiness, while attending to key customer requirements like losses/turns ratio/temperature rise/current density and short circuit forces which are contained well within permissible limits.

The range includes: distribution transformers – 10 kVA up to 2500 kVA/11 kV; power transformers – up to 50 MVA/132 kV; dry type transformers – up to 2500 kVA/11 kV; generator transformers – up to 31.5 MVA; and furnace transformers – up to 12.5 MVA.

The company has successfully conducted short circuit and impulse test on its transformers for all ratings from 15 kVA to 20,000 kVA up to 110 kV class at CPRI – Bangalore.
