Vibrating Fork Level Switch

Levcon Controls offers a Vibrating Fork Level Switch. Vibrating probe-type sensors are often used to detect solid materials such as powders, bulk solids, grain, flour, plastic granules, cement, and fly ash. They provide excellent performance as high or low level switches and can be mounted from the top or sides of tanks. Principle of operation: the level switch uses a vibrating “tuning fork” to sense the presence of material. Piezoelectric crystals in the base of the fork create and sense movement of the tines. The electronics and transmit crystal drive the oscillation, and when in air the tines vibrate at about 100 Hz. When material contacts the fork tip, the oscillation diminishes because the fork is now dampened by material contact. The receive crystal senses this difference and its output signal reduces. The signals are processed and sent to the remote control unit. The status of the relay changes when the receive crystal signal reduces with respect to a reference signal indicating presence of material.
