Neutral Loss Detection Relay

General Industrial Controls Pvt Ltd (GIC) has introduced a Neutral Loss Detection Relay, Model MAC04D0100. In general, loss of neutral in a system or neutral integrity problems is more common in developing countries due a combination of aggressive environmental conditions, vandalism and in some cases, questionable workmanship. The systems and installations that are most adversely affected by the abnormal condition of a lost or broken neutral conductor, are:

• Single phase systems and single phase circuits that are derived from three phase star connected supplies
• Three phase systems that include single phase loads may experience voltage shifts between the star point
• The three phases, depending on the balance of single phase loads across the three phases

Worst case scenarios could include:
• Damage to connected loads due to over voltages on single phase circuits derived from 3-phase star connections
• The creation of hazardous touch voltages on exposed conductive parts

The GIC neutral loss detection relay MAC04D0100 detects the loss of neutral, de-energises the relay instantly (500-750 ms) and protects the system. In addition, the device also detects phase loss, phase sequence, under voltage, over voltage and phase unbalance faults with separate LED indications.
