Flexible membrane switches

These are wafer thin assemblies consisting of an array of normally open momentary contact switches printed using conductive substrates. There are two contacts separated by a laminated spacer. When the switch is depressed, the top contact closes the switch and the release pressure opens it. Connection to the membrane is via an integral extension of the contact layers terminated on crimped male/female clincher connectors/ZIF connectors. SMD LEDs can be embedded and sealed in the membrane making it an economical and technically superior alternatives to conventional switching systems. They are designed as a standard or customised and constructed to suit individual requirements. Hybrid membranes are similar to flexible membranes except the contact layers are etched on a printed circuit board. They can be designed to incorporate discrete passive components, mechanical switches, and surface mount devices and provisions for active components. They are supported with riveted mountings as per customer requirements. The complete assembly is self-supporting and as a mechanical item may be used as an integral part of the end users equipment package.
