In this system, light is transmitted without voltage, from the optics of the control unit through the fibre optic conductor. The fibre optic conductors are interchangeable and are available in a variety of different models. The control units are able to function both as through-beam and as diffuse reflection. Fibre optic sensors are particularly suitable in applications involving excessive heat and electronic, magnetic or other interference fields which could impair functional reliability. Fibre optics in metal sheathing are designed especially to with-stand temperatures at which electronic devices no longer function reliably.
