Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers

Gelco Electronics Pvt Ltd offers Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers, Models Suraksha and Shock Guard. These high sensitive current operated earth leakage circuit breakers are designed to give protection by disconnecting the supply against risk of dangerous and possible lethal electric shocks. Confirming to BS standard 4293: 1983, they detect dangerous leakage current exceeding the generally accepted safe limit of 30 mA (can be up to 100 mA) and isolate the affected section of the installation.

Principle of operation: Gelco high sensitive current operated earth leakage circuit breakers incorporate an active current transformer, to sense the sum of all current to be normally zero.

Sensitivity and speed of operation: The sensitivity of current operated EL+MCB and Shock Guard (ELCB) is usually stated in terms of their rated tripping current. It trips within 30 msec when leakage exceeds the safe limit.

Protection: The EL+MCB consists of an MCB, which gives protection against overload and short circuit. It also gives high/low voltage protection. The Shock Guard ELCB does not provide overload and short circuit protection. It has high/low voltage protections. To check the operation of the EL+MCB and Shock Guard (ELCB), a test circuit is incorporated; by pressing a push button on from side, artificial leakage is created. The electronic circuit senses the leakage current and trips the EL+MCB and Shock Guard (ELCB) in order of sensitivity.

Operation: Normally current flowing through the phase passes through the neutral through load so resultant voltage in active transformer is zero. In case of any leakage, core balance transformer senses as unbalance and small signal voltage is generated in secondary winding is fed to solid state electronic circuit of EL+MCB and Shock Guard (ELCB), which amplifies the small signal and trips the mechanism and thus isolates the defective installation.
