The constant voltage transformer (CVT) works on ferro resonance principle. The units have built in harmonic filter to provide a line-wave output. Because of the high isolation between input & output CVT provides protection against transient spikes and harmonics and also there is a no shock problem in case of leakage in the equipment being run on CVT. It cannot be used with equipment which take heavy starting current, viz, refrigerators, air conditioners, induction motors, etc., because of its overload protection characteristics.
