DATAC Controls International, Ireland, are amongst the world leaders in telemetry and SCADA. The DATAC's remote control and monitoring unit (RCMU) is a remote terminal unit (RTU) designed for telemetry and SCADA applications where input/output signals at remote locations are to be monitored. DATAC RCMU can communicate using VHF/UHF or microwave radio, leased lines, PSTN, cellular phone or satellite. The basic RCMU with in-built VHF/UHF radio is fitted in a compact IP-55 enclosure. The number of stations in existing SCADA networks can be expanded using the RCMU at lower cost than the conventional RTUS. As an option, the second communication port on the RCMU can be used as a serial interface to other SCADA, DCS or computer system. This is specifically suited for remote monitoring and controlling of parameters for applications such as remote pumping stations, reservoirs, substations, pipelines, light houses, and security systems. Remote control in both direction is possible. Where power supply is not possible, solar powered supply with battery backup can be provided. These RCMUs have a programmable sleep mode in which the transmission takes place only as per the specified intervals, thereby saving on the battery power at remote locations.
