Compad-32 and Compad-85 are PCMCIA based slim cards for industrial communication, used in notebook computers. Compad-32 has 2 RS-232 ports and Compad-85 has 2 RS-422/RS-485 (industrial communication Standards) ports. Both are PCMCIA type II compatible. They have 16550 advanced communication chip to handle communications up to 115 kbps (kilo bits per second). They complement the existing serial ports on a typical notebook PC as they can assume COM3/COM4 addresses. Compad 32 has a complete set of RS-232 communication protocol for modems or PLC connections. Compad 85 has a facility for a full duplex 4-wire communication (RS-422 standard) or a half-duplex 2-wire communication (RS-485 standard). In case of RS-485 communication, RTS or CTS lines can be used to initiate communication. Compads come with a standard DOS driver, PCcom Lib which supports most common languages like C, Pascal, Assembly and Clipper. The package also includes Data scope data viewer, a terminal emulator and self-diagnostic utilities for easy trouble shooting and debugging. Compad is useful in harsh industrial environment and can work at a temperature up to 50?C. It is useful with most modems and PLCS for long distance communications and operator interfaces.
