Ethernet media converter for fibre optic cables

Phoenix Contact offers the new FL MC media converters, which adapt the Ethernet 10 Base T interface to fibre optic cable. The slim converters, which are only 22.5 mm thick, are simply snapped onto regular EN mounting rails and can be either stand alone devices or be integrated into a modular hub system. Attached to an FL hub station the power is supplied via the integrated backplane in the base of the housing. In a stand alone configuration power is supplied separately at 24 V DC via pluggable screw terminals. The media converters are provided with a link monitoring system, which keeps a check on the availability of the cable link and online devices separately according to TP and Foc ports. Depending on the required optical range there are two versions of unit: Distances up to 50 m can be bridged with polymer fibers while for ranges up to 200 m it is best to use 200/230 m HCS fiber, which is also easy to assemble. With F SMA quick installation connectors, fast and simple assembly of connectors in the field is possible. If larger distances are required or if an existing fibre optic installation is to be used, a second version of the unit permits data communication up to 2,500 m via multimode fibre optics. Termination conforms to the ST (B FOC) standard.
