KMV Mechatronics Systems provides stainless steel ball scale for machine tool builders, system integrators and machine designers. Principle of operation: high-precision steel balls are inserted into a stainless steel tube. The balls are then pre-loaded against a traceable standard in a temperature controlled (20°C) environment. The reader head is made up of a series of coil assemblies along with the supporting electronics. After final assembly, the reader head cavity is filled with an epoxy resin to fully encapsulate and protect the electronic circuitry. The encoder operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction. An electromagnetic field is generated by a drive coils within the reader head that interacts with the balls contained within the scale. A set of pickup coils detect variations in the induced field which are then combined and processed to generate signals that vary in sine and cosine form caused by axial movement along the scale. The degree of phase shift between 0° and 360° is related to the position of the reader head over a ball. A high-speed digital-processor (DSP) samples the signals and converts them from their sine-cosine state, to industry standard differential quadrature. The DSP also synchronizes the periodic reference marker (RM) pulse to the A and B high output levels at the appropriate position.
