Pyrotech Electronics offers an Electronic Ear (sound transmitter) System. This is a sound system used for measuring sound generated in a grinding/cement/ball mills. This is an import substitute and is developed by the company’s R&D department. It is used in raw mills, cement mills, coal mills, etc., to give a current output corresponding to the fill level of the mill. The company has already installed 100 such systems in the country, which are working satisfactorily. The system consists of three items, viz., sound sensor, transmitter and mounting stand. Sound sensor uses the mill shell as membrane and detects the mill shell vibrations caused by the grinding balls, hitting the mill lining and the material in the mill. The system is insensitive to foreign acoustic noise from other surroundings. Some of the specifications are: measuring frequency range – 1-10 kHz (3 dB corner frequencies); single input from sensor – 1m V or more; and single output – 4-20 mA. The company can provide complete solutions for mills, which include sensing the mill level and diaphragm temperature measurement over wireless (wireless RTD transmitter).
