Digital media platforms

PortalPlayer offers Tango digital media platforms. These are powerful, base level platforms for next generation MP3-type player/recorder systems, including hybrid systems combining CD and digital audio player/recorders, and hard drive equipped digital audio jukeboxes. These digital media platforms are the first in the family of end-to-end solutions, which allow consumers to enjoy a variety of digital audio formats any way, anywhere and anytime they wish. These platforms provide OEMs with the necessary software and highly integrated, single-chip engine to build fully-featured systems supporting multiple codecs, encryption standards, and digital rights management technologies. The platforms include: PP5001 super integration system-on-a-chip controller; PP700l digital media manager application for Windows 95 PCs; and all necessary firmware to implement mass-market products, including licensed applications and the Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). The company also provides development kits and reference design (PP600l) to produce systems fully compliant with standards defined by the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI).
