Contactor for capacitor switching

Rewale Engineering has developed an environment friendly contactor, Model Recom 36, for capacitor switching. The contactors are suitable for capacitive loads up to 25 kVAR. The contactor coil operates on 24 V DC (filtered), which avoids high voltage connections to the electronic circuit. The contactor is of 4-pole design and has one arcing contact made from material with extremely high melting point per pole to improve life of the main contacts. Each pole has an ICLD (inrush current limiting device) on it, which limits the inrush current 2-3 times the nominal current. The device can withstand short circuit currents up to 50 kV. The electromagnet used in the contactor is of a special type, which avoids chattering of plunger, and hence contacts on low voltage. The electromagnet uses very low power and requires closing wattage 48 W (0.2 sec max) and continuous wattage 0.5 watts because of which the coil is never heated thus minimizes chance of contactor burnout. The contactors are made of extremely reliable engineering plastic like PBT and mica filled bakelite. The product is certified by ERDA, Vadodara according to IEC 60947 part IV Duty AC 6b.
