Bar Code Scanner, Portable

United Ink & Varnish Co has recently diversified into communication and IT products. Bar coding systems are restricted to be used within a radius of two metres from a computer, the limit being on account of the length of the cable of the scanner. For applications where bar codes are to be read in areas remote from a computer, say the shop floor or the finished goods store, portable, handheld scanners have to be used. These are expensive. The company has developed a handheld/portable memory for the barcode scanner which is available at a small fraction of the cost of the protable scanner. The data from the conventional scanner can be stored and then transferred to a computer when convenient. It may be used for a variety of applications; stock taking, polling security stations, attendance recording, and access control systems. It can be attached to bar code scanners of any make.
