Vacuum Tap Changer for Transformers

On Load Gears offers has designed a Vacuum Tap Changer for dry type transformers, AIRVAC-T15. The needs for oil-less OLTC for 12 kV dry type transformers were first met by OLG with an air break on load tap changer. This OLTC fully met the requirements of the Indian transformer industry for up to 3 MVA since the year 2000. When the transformer rating is getting to be 5 MVA, a higher rated OLTC is required and OLG has come up with its T15, a 12 kV vacuum OLTC rated at 200 A with 9 positions. The control in T15 is electronic, which eliminates a lot of electrical hardware. The controller is a compact unit containing a programmable AVR, TPI and counter. The controls for operating the OLTC are brought out in a panel in front for manual operation. In addition T15 has a ROD (remote operating device) can be included for operating the OLTC from a remote location. This can work for a distance of a kilometre. The ROD has a facility to disable the AVR during remote manual operation and a TPI. Only two wires run between the OLTC and the ROD. A separate power source of 230 V AC should be provided for powering the ROD. On Load Gears was started in 1983 to manufacture OLTCs as a spin off from a company that had existed from 1967. The founders of OLG have 40 + years business experience. Through the last 29 years of existence OLG has expanded its product line to include not only all varieties of tap-changers for the domestic and international markets but also vacuum circuit breakers, weldable transformer bushings and most recently capacitor switches.
