Linear Motion Potentiometers (Position Transducers)

Uni-Automation has introduced Unilin-M, a new series of linear transducers. Many modern installations of automated indus- trial machine controls require the use of a transducer to provide electrical analogue signal proportional to the position of some moving part of the installation. Position transducers are usually installed directly on the machine being controlled; hence the transducer should be rugged, reliable, accurate and should have high output. These conditions are met in a most cost-effective manner through the use a high performance potentiometeric device. The series is designed to meet industrial environments. A shaft wiper seal is standard in all units to remove debris from the shaft as it moves into the unit. For applications where the LMP is subject to water, cutting oils, etc, the units may be ordered with water resistant seals. Since Unilin is a potentiometer, it is always used in a 3-terminal voltage divider configuration. For applications where the transducer is located at some distance from the measuring circuit and thus requires long connecting leads, an operational amplifier (voltage follower module) can be offered. The amplifier also provides a low output impedance when the transducer is connected to a low input impedance measuring circuit. The entire resistance element assembly wiper is isolated from ground.
