Ferrules For Short Circuit Resistant Cables

The new ferrules XL from Phoenix Contact are designed for cables with particularly thick special insulations and are characterised by a large insulating collar, which provides greater operational safety as well as cost savings. The funnel effect of the insulating collar allows fast assembly. The support of the conductor insulation in the insulating collar prevents the conductor from kinking, as well as preventing cable breaks and vibration damage. The plastic collar is twice the size of a ferrule according to DIN 46228-4. The collars are colour-coded for the respective conductor cross sectio in accordance with DIN. The collars can be delivered various lengths for conductor cross sections of 1.5 mm2 to 16 mm2 and can be processed with any commercially available crimping tool. Cables with especially thick special insulations are being used more and more in the wiring of switch cabinets. These cables are used when equipment, eg, sockets, still remain live in system components after the main switch has been turned off.
