Air Cooled Dc Shunts

Forbes Gokak offers air cooled DC shunts. These cover a very wide range of current from 1.5 amperes to 20,000 amperes. The Type 4638 is for currents up to 2,000 amperes and Type 2276 is for currents up to 20,000 amperes. Type 4638 shunts having rated values up to 100 amperes are calibrated to maintain resistance within 0.03% for any current up to full rated current. Between 100 and 2,000 amperes they will keep within 0.05% for any current up to their full rating. Type 2276 under steady condition keeps the error limited within 0.1% up to full rated current but this figure is greatly improved if forced air is used for cooling. The stability of these shunts under steady current conditions is better than 0.01% or better. The shunts are constructed of high grade manganin, then resistive elements being solidly soldered to the current terminals and the whole assembly is mounted on a strong base and fitted with a protective cover.
