The ABB solid-state energy meters represent a revolutionary step in solid-state metering technology. It has been designed to meet not just the quality, performance and functional requirements of utility customers, but also to address the important aspects of the utility business environment. ABB Alpha energy meters are electronic poly-phase static electricity meters. An integral register collects, processes and stores energy use and demand data in all the four quadrants on a real time of use basis (TOU). Intended for use by industrial and commercial utility customers, the Alpha meter is available for HT and LT consumer applications. Accuracy and stability is built into the Alpha meter as a default design feature. Based on the innovative electronic circuit design using surface mount technology (SMT) and application specific integrated circuits (ASIC), ABB energy meters function over a wide dynamic current range and under extreme environmental operating conditions. Alpha energy meters are ready with optional RS232-C/RS-485 port for remote metering and automatic meter reading system. These meters support various communication media, viz, Direct Twisted Wire, PSTN, Leased line, Fibre Optics, Radio, etc.
