BEST 96 from Schaffner is an entire EMC test system in a single, compact package. It is the first complete, selfcontained solution to combine all the functions required for full EU compliance testing of residential, commercial and light-industrial electrical and electronic products. For the first time, manufacturers who need to CE mark their products can complete the entire pre-compliance and compliance test procedures in-house-easily, quickly, economically and reliably. For manufacturers who find they need an EMC test function in-house for the first time, the simple, comprehensive solution provided by BEST 96 is ideal. For existing test facilities, BEST 96 opens up the possibility of adding affordable compliance or pre-compliance test units for design, re-engineering or production test purposes. BEST 96 comes complete with everything one needs for the entire compliance test procedure. A compact multi-function generator provides burst, electromagnetic discharge (ESD), surge and power quality pulses for single-phase powerline and dataline compliance tests to EN 50082-1. Groundplane, cables, ground-strap, grounding resistor and coupling clamp for dataline testing are also all included as part of the standard BEST 96 package, along with clear step-by-step instructions on how to complete the tests and gain the right to display the CE symbol. Running a compliance test using BEST 96 is so simple that no specialist EMC skills or training are required. Built-in test pulses are provided, so the system can be operated effectively by a QA technician or non-specialist engineer. The product to be tested is simply plugged into the universal interface/coupler built-in to the front panel, and the appropriate pre-programmed tests run as required. All the generation functions can be controlled directly from the front panel of the instrument, using the key-pad and liquid crystal display (LCD)- or remotely from a PC using intuitive Windows software. The advanced Windows control software available for BEST 96 give access to a level of test administration, engineering and analysis functions normally only associated with high-end EMC test instrumentation-and yet it does not require any special skills or training for operation. It offers a range of test management tools including sequencing, customisation, storage options and data analysis. Test certificates, engineering reports and user documentation can be generated and printed automatically. EN 50082-1 is the generic standard to which all equipment for residential, commercial and light-industrial equipment must be tested. As defined by the EU, this category is very broad, including product designed for use in public areas such as cinemas, parks and petrol stations; light industrial premises such as workshops and small factories; as well as private homes, offices and shops.
