Battery Discharge Resistor Unit

Iresco Electricals manufacture battery discharge resistor units. These are used to carry periodical discharge tests on batteries, which is a mandatory requirement. These tests ensure reliability, better service and enhanced performance of the battery system. Battery manufacturers specify yearly, half yearly and quaterly charge/discharge cycle tests. The tests help the user in following ways: check initial battery performance against manufacturers' specifications; avoid deterioration of battery system by early detection of defective cells; guarantee smooth operation of back up system during emergencies; and, improve overall health and life of the battery system. The discharge resistor unit is designed to perform periodic discharge tests on station batteries. The resistor unit is a robust assembly consisting of Copper-Nickel alloy wire grid elements, supported on SS tie rods, insulated from each other and the enclosure with micanite tubes, washers and ceramic formers. The unique design of elements allows rapid, natural cooling of resistor bank. Castors are provided for easy mobility. The resistor bank has adequate trimming facility (coarse and fine), to maintain a constant current against failing voltage during discharge operation. DC contactors/circuit breakers or knife edge switches are used for switching depending upon client's preference. The rate of discharge can be accurately controlled and monitored in this system which is a distinct advantage over other conventional methods of discharge.
