Variable Speed Drive

Deepak Drives has developed an aluminium alloy asymmetrical variable speed drive suitable for 0.37 to 45 kW. The speed varia- tion is in the ratio of 8:1. The drive consists of two variable speed pulleys and a belt. The drive R pulley is mechanically adjustable and drive N gets automatically adjusted. Both the pulleys work together on the fixed centre distance, speed variation can be achieved by applying pressure on drive R pulley by means of hand wheel. Ideally these drives can be integral part of the machine and speed adjustment can also be achieved by simple screw, cam, lever arm, servomotor, hydraulic or pneumatic actua-tors, etc. The speed can be adjusted while the machine is in operation. The drive has unique features of automatic torque dependent pressure device depending on rating of power to be transferred. It ensures optimum axial contact pressure automatically on the V-belt. The greater the torque, the greater the contact pressure. This means that the belt does not slip during the intermittent operation, under excessive load, or when the machine starts with flywheel effect. This lightweight drive results in low movement inertia, ensures less load on motor bearing, saving power, has enhanced capacity to withstand frequent switching operation and reversal of rotation. The drive is lifetime lubricated, since linear German bearings are used. It has excellent sliding properties and therefore prevents jerking movements during the adjustment process. It has belt width of lower size, resulting higher lateral rigidity, lower centrifugal forces, less internal heating, ie, greater toughness and thus longer belt life.
