It has applications as soft start, speed regulation and energy-saving operation of such loads as pumps and air blower fans driven by large and medium wound-rotor asynchronous motors with rated voltage of 380 V~12 kV. It is also used for protection of motors against the impulse or the surge current, which usually occurs in the variable and impulse-ridden load as found in rolling machines in metallurgy industry. Since the voltage of the device has no direct relevance to the stator voltage of the wound-rotor motor, the device is applicable to motors with various voltage and capacity.
