Rittal's explosion-protection enclosures, with their new silicone foam gaskets, now meet the revised requirements of the new EN 60079-0:2009 standard. The enclosures, granted ATEX and IEC certification, can therefore be used in zone 1 and 21 hazardous areas and at temperatures ranging from -30 to +80°C. The EN 60079 series of standards, which specifies the general requirements for electrical equipment and components for use in hazardous environments, has been substantially revised. The new edition of EN 60079-0:2009 calls for all enclosures - including their seals - to be subjected to tests for resistance to cold and heat. Thanks to a new sealing material, Rittal's enclosures now meet all the requirements of standard EN 60079-0:2009. With their innovative silicone foam gaskets, the stainless steel enclosures can be used in Zone 1 (gas, vapours, and steam) and Zone 21 (dust) hazardous areas. The new enclosure designs in IP 66 are ATEX and IEC-certified. In terms of temperature range, Rittal goes a significant way beyond the basic requirements of -20°C to +40°C. The explosion-protected enclosures are approved for use at temperatures ranging from -30° to +80°C and they have the highest temperature class – T6. Further advantages of the new seals are the improved long-term protection they provide from the ingress of water and other sources of damage.
