Bolt, Self Locking

When a threaded fastener is subjected to vibration, the rapid movement causes a lowering of friction against the threads and a subsequent loss of preload. The loss of preload allows the fastener to vibrate loose. The Nord-Lock washers solve this problem with their interlocking cam system. Teeth on the outside of the washer pair hold securely to the fastener and the joint material, making the only vulnerable surface the one between the washers. Because the lead angle of the cams on this surface is greater than the thread angle of the bolt or screw, a tendency to rotate loose increases the preload preventing any loosening. Nord-Lock has cams on one side with a rise greater than the pitch of the bolt. In addition, it has radial teeth on the opposite side. The washers are installed in pairs, cam face to cam face, forming the unique Nord-Lock system. When tightening the fastener to preload, the teeth on the outside of the washer pair penetrate and seat against the joint material and the nut or fastener head, when subjected to vibration, the interlocked cams create a wedge action, preventing the fastener from vibrating loose. Nord-Lock washers are truly versatile. They can be used on standard as well as high grade fasteners. They can be used with screws in threaded holes as well as with bolts and nuts. They can be used with hex head, socket head or round head screws or bolts. Any time a vibration proof threaded fastener is needed, Nord-Lock is the right choice.
