Mechatronic Long-Stroke Gripper

SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems, offers a versatile Mechatronic Long-Stroke Gripper. With the capability of adaptation for all standard servo motors, the SCHUNK EGA electrically driven long-stroke gripper is the most flexible gripper of its kind on the mar-ket. New small sizes expand the application range, and ensure compact, mechatronic gripping solutions from the standard area. Due to its comprehensive adaptability, the EGA can be easily integrated to the existing system’s control and regulation unit. It can directly interpolate as an additional axis since it can be controlled with the same command set as the superior robot. Therefore problems with incompatible control signals can be excluded, and features of the system’s control unit such as programming, safety, or field buses can be directly used. This robust long-stroke gripper is based on a mechatronic platform, which has already been tried and tested many times with the pneumatic SCHUNK PHL long-stroke gripper. It is extremely thin and compact, and has less interfering contours. The guide carriages of its base jaws are ball bearing mounted, which minimizes friction and provide for an optimum force distribution, resulting in consistent precision and long service life. Moreover, the weight-optimised design contributes to a better system’s dynamics and energy efficiency. All conventional industrial servo motors can be used as a drive system. Depending on the application, the motor can be parallel or rectangular flange-mounted in direction of motion. The EGA is available in three sizes with size-specific stroke versions from 30 mm to 160 mm. At gripping forces of 650 N, 1300 N or 4000 N, it is suitable for handling larger components up to 20 kg, but also for batch production with various workpiece sizes which are running through one single production line. Moreover, the EGA can reliably grip components with large undercuts. Depending on the motor, protection class IP41 (mechanically), or IP67 (electrically) are feasible.
