Instruments For Precision Measurement In Vertical Mode

The Swiss company Sylvac SA has introduced two vertical precision measuring instruments. Z_CAL 150 and Z_CAL 300 are distinguished by their original design. Everything has been done to enable the operator to handle the instrument with ease and to perform measuring tasks quicker. Z_CAL 150 weighs 4.3 kg whilst Z_CAL 300 weighs 5.3 kg. It was the manufacturer's aim to develop a measuring instrument offering the greatest ease and facility, ultimately leading to a design capable of providing the most modem ergonomic features. Z_CAL is easy to handle: the operator's hand naturally rests on the base of the unit, which also comprises two sensitive keys for the first and second fingers. These two keys enable fine control of the probe path-either up or down. The motordriven assistance system enables the operator to position the probe by reverse control. Set at the works to 30 grams, the probe pressure can be varied from 25 to 50 grams, thus allowing both accurate and fine measurement, especially on such materials as glass, plastic, synthetic material, light alloys or any other parts whose wall thicknesses require careful handling. Z_CAL can carry out all types of measurement to within a degree of accuracy of 4 microns for Z_CAL 150 and 6 microns for Z_CAL 300. Measuring heights, lengths, reverse surfaces, internal and external diameter, and the distance between centres can be easily handled by the operator alone. The numeric keyboard provides assistance through its automatic functions and uses illuminated signals to indicate that the work is being done correctly. It is also possible to proceed with one-off measurements using the reference preset or to carry out a series of repetitive measurements for standard work. The data is output to a printer, display unit or even a PC via its RS232 outlet. Z_CAL can be used with all the usual accessories adapted to the various types of measurement tasks and offers, in particular, the option of using probes with 2 mm or 1 mm heads. This is particularly useful for measuring very small parts. All these features combine to make the Z_CAL an ideal companion, both in the workshop and inspection room.
