The Oil Analysis Kit (OAK), for SKF condition monitoring, is an effective, low lost way to monitor wear rates, contamination levels and oil degradation found in the operation of a wide spectrum of plant machinery, including turbines, compressors, gears, hydraulics, pumps, diesels, fans or blowers, says the builder. This information, delivered quickly and at a minimum cost, can save plants money by preventing downtime and major overhauls while extending their equipment, fluid and investment life cycles. The kit, which contains 23 pre-paid analyses, is a useful tool for maintenance managers who wish to retain in-house control of their treating procedures. Utilized at the discretion of the client, the kit can be used for a variety of machine oils and does not discriminate according to equipment type. Everything needed to take samples, including instructions, are in the kit. Simply collect samples, fill out labels and put them in the enclosed prepaid mailers. The company sorts the samples, sets up equipment databases, determines the proper tests for each component and fluid, performs the analysis and sends back easy to read graphical reports. All critical data is reported immediately by telephone or FAX. Reports can also be retrieved via modem from the laboratory using custom software. Oil analysis will detect microscopic particles long before equipment starts to vibrate, heat up or show signs of wear. It will also evaluate the oil"s ability to seal, cool, clean and lubricate as well as detect contamination.
