Strip Chart Recorder was designed basically for the purpose of temperature measurement and recoding in both batch processes and continuous processes. Two basic types of instruments are manufactured namely single pen and multipoint keeping in mind different types of applications in the process industry. Single pen has the advantage of continuous marking on the strip chart processes where the trend has to be studied or observed very closely. In these processes they expect quick variations in temperature and they cannot afford to have a break in measurement.

- Single pen recorder includes low temperature measurements in blood banks and cold storage.
- Multipoint recorder on the other hand is highly useful for processes where in a set pattern of temperature has to be maintained.
