Electromagnetic flow meter is suitable for liquids with low conductivities, viz, above 5µ Siemens/cm. The method of flow measurement is based an Faraday"s law of electromagnetic induction. In case of the flow meter, the flowing media acts as a conductor and cuts the magnetic field generated in the flow tube with the help of a coil. The signal is sensed and amplified in the transmitter section to give an output signal of 4 to 20 mA proportional to the flow rate of the flowing media. Additionally, flow rate display as well as a counter for flow totalisation can be provided on demand. The flow measurement is independent of velocity profile, density, viscosity, pressure, and temperature and solid impurities. Also, there is no pressure drop across the flow meter as there is no obstruction in the path of flow. Accuracy offered by the flow meter is ± 0.5% of actual flow for velocities as low as 0.1 m/s and for line sizes ranging from DN 10 to DN 300. Major applications are slurries, paper-pulp, effluents, molasses as well as corrosive liquids that are difficult to measure with conventional methods of flow measurement like Orifice meter/Vortex/mass flow meters. This meter finds its application in industries like chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, sugar, effluent treatment plants, food, drugs, steel, aluminium and many more.
