Oxford Instruments India has launched a new handheld Scrap Metal Analyser, mPulse™. The mPulse is based on a new revolutionary technique called Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The mPulse integrates an incredibly fast 1s analysis speed together with ease of use and rugged reliability. It is the world's fastest scrap metal analyser, which has been designed so that it can simply, quickly and consistently identify scrap or recycled metal and determine its value, reducing time and maximizing profits. It is possible to use the mPulse handheld analyser for testing large or small samples, which include granules or turnings. The sample’s surface is scanned with a laser that repeatedly 'bounces' across tiny samples to optimise the analysis. Samples may be held where convenient since the laser is non-penetrating, microscopic and cannot be felt. mPulse is a surface analyser, therefore the test pieces need to be clean. However, no specific sample preparation is needed. Normally the laser will penetrate anodised surfaces. Operation is incredibly simple – the only button on the mPulse is the trigger, which is also used to power-up the instrument.
