Dynamic Balancing & Sound and Vibration Analysis

Dynamic Balancing & Sound and Vibration Analysis are the solution to vibration problems caused due to mechanical unbalance. These are offered through: shop balancing on 3 ton belt driven variable speed (200 to 5000 RPM) machine; onsite balancing of all such rotors done using field balancer at actual speed; and sound and vibration analysis. The vibrations are mainly caused by mechanical unbalance (in 50% cases), misalignment, bearing failure and loose parts. High speed or flexible rotor is balanced at actual speed as per IS05406:1980 in shop or at test facility. While balancing it should remembered that eventual aim of balancing is to ensure satisfactory running of the rotor in its operating environment and not only in the balancing facility. To this end it is desirable to simulate service support conditions in specifying bearings for balancing facility. Thus shaft, keys, bearings and pedestals used for the balancing should reproduce to the necessary extent the mass and stiffness of the service bearings. For such reasons, belt drive machine is preferred in simulation than end drive machine. Onsite balancing is performed as per ISO 2372 and 3945 on assembled rotor at actual site at actual rotational speed in its usual environments. Examples of such rotors are ID and FD fans, cooling tower fans and centrifuge baskets. These items can be balanced at site at considerable saving of cost, labour and down time. The results are often more satisfactory than those achieved in shop balancing. Measurement of sound level is done as per IS09614 and IS 9779 and bearing conditions using SPM meter.
