Castings & Forgings

Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), one of the largest integrated engineering complexes in India, manufactures and supplies capital equipment and machinery and renders project execution services for core sector industries. The Castings and Forgings are made in the Foundry Forge Plant (FFP) which has dedicated shops for steel melting and foundry, grey iron foundry, non-ferrous foundry, forging (heavy, medium and light), machining and rolls manufacturing. Steel and iron foundry are supported by pattern shops, sand preparation set up, fettling and heat treatment shops. The FFP has its captive oxygen, acetylene and producer gas plants. The company manufactures all grades of plain carbon and alloy steel. Electric arc furnaces of capability 30T, 10T and induction furnace of 5T are used for steel melting, 60T vacuum arc degassing, 60T ladle furnace and 90T vacuum degassing unit are used for secondary refining of steel. Forging shops are equipped with hydraulic presses of capacity 6000T, 2650T, 1650T, 1000T and hammers. Steel melting shop is capable of producing and utilising up to 130T liquid metal for single ingot/casting, FFP has well equipped laboratory and quality management system. Capabilities: steel and iron castings – steel casting up to piece weight 65T, iron casting up to piece weight 70T, centrifugal casting; non-ferrous castings – up to piece weight 4T, centrifugal casting; steel forgings –forgings up to piece weight of 65T, complete with heat treatment and machining; and forged rings up to diameter of 4.2 m, die forgings. Castings – typical product profile: slag cup for steel plant (16/18/22 cu.m), trunion for slag car, platform for ingot transfer car, rolling mill housing, roll chocks, crusher and its components, cyclotron magnet, tyres, mill heads, girth gear for cement plants, Mn steel casting. Forgings – typical product profile: crank shafts for diesel locomotive, other shafts, blocks, gear blanks, rings, forged rolls (HRM and CRM), spindles, couplings, pinions and flanges, shell forging, long shafts, fan shafts, breast/table rollers, crane wheels, hooks, die blocks, rotor shafts, etc.
